Prior to 1988, it had been the State Institute of Education. it had been later upgraded to SCERT in 1988 under a resolution of the State Department of Education . The Upgraded SCERT, now referred to as the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT), may be a fully-fledged state-level institution and is managed and guided by a board of directors also as an executive committee.
Through Mandal Std. 1-12 Gujarati Medium textbooks are published. Thereafter in Hindi, English, Marathi, Sindhi, Urdu, Sanskrit & Tamil, etc Language also text books are published.
